Olivia Hussey, the celebrated actress renowned for her breakout role as Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, has died at the age of 73. Her family confirmed that she passed away peacefully at her home on December 27, surrounded by loved ones.

In a heartfelt statement shared on her official Instagram page, the family expressed their grief: “Olivia was a remarkable person whose warmth, wisdom, and pure kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.”

Born Olivia Osuna on April 17, 1951, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hussey moved to London as a child. Her acting journey began at just 13 years old, but it was her performance as Juliet at the age of 16 that catapulted her to international fame. Her portrayal earned her a Golden Globe and solidified her status as one of her generation’s most promising talents.

Hussey’s career spanned decades and genres, from her chilling role in the 1974 horror classic Black Christmas to her portrayal of Mary in Franco Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth (1977). She also starred in Death on the Nile (1978) and appeared in the 1990 miniseries It. Her versatility made her a beloved figure across film and television.

Throughout her life, Hussey faced significant challenges, including battles with breast cancer in 2008 and 2018. Despite these hardships, she remained a source of inspiration to fans and colleagues alike.

She is survived by her husband, musician David Glen Eisley, her three children, and a grandson.
